It had been a bloody battle, the surroundings turned dark and grimy as their confrontation closed. He had triumphed over the beast to be sure, it's form now covered in the grinch's chosen colors, but at what cost? It wore them as a child would color a page, a patchwork of streams and streaks that were a mockery of his grand plans! The beast had won from the very beginning and our hero knew this. Now, no longer a hero, he was but another casualty in this yearly struggle to be seen among the glittering lights of an oddly secluded world. He did not, however, lose heart at this revelation. No, for he knew that next year would bring a chance for redemption. He will wait, planning and scheming as his kind always does and then, when all appears normal, he shall grab another of this wreath's kin and begin anew!
