Nikolai Zieu by Rehgan

Nikolai Zieu

Rehgan

Fredek's father, and Nick's namesake and grandfather. He shows up approximately never, but I wanted to draw him anyway, so there's that!

That may or may not say "Nikolai Zieu", the internet has lied to me before.

I don't wanna ruin it. But you misspelled Николай. D:

It's okay - I'd never learn without making mistakes! So Николай is the proper way to spell Nikolai? (Someone else is helping me figure out how to get "Zieu" right, so don't feel bad)

Yeah. The only mistake is you added ц before the к. Which, on a Russian keyboard, the letters are right next to each other. xP

How is Zieu meant to be pronounced? Is each letter pronounced? Or is it zee-oo? Or is the ie just barely pronounced? Just depends on how it's said. But it doesn't seem like it'd be too hard to do. :D

Good to know - thank you!

It's pronounced Zey-oo / Zey-yuu (depending on how hard someone makes the last syllable). After a little back and forth, they suggested Зeю or Зейу - or even what I'd used in the first place. Any thoughts? :D

Ah ha. Well in that case, Зею might be the best choice, because of how Russian has variable stress and palatized vowels. BUT! It is still up to you, I guess, how you would prefer the pronunciation of such a name: id est, would you have the stress on ю or е. Btw, you could even have the е changed to э, in the event that you do not want the Z (з) to be palatized. (1. э is the unpalatized version of е. э is like the e in "bed" and е.. well it's palatized. 2. If you use е instead of э, Zieu would then be pronounced something like "zye-yoo". There's no good way to express palatization in English via text, because English only palatizes words... mainly on accident. Lol. It's not a feature inherent in English, as it is in Russian.)

And please forgive the splurge of information there. I'm a linguist. And I've been drinking. PLS2FORGIVE

FORGIVEN. For I have learned things in general and about you! I thank you for your help. I'll have to ruminate on all this awhile, language isn't my forte!
