Where there's a Will there's a way

Ruby never stopped playing Motorsport Manager; she's instead worked on how to continuously improve herself even at the top. Hell, she had even since a while ago gotten the habit of playing only on long races which does require a lot more consistency over the chaotic nature of the short races. As a result, long races are generally a tad more difficult, at least Ruby perceived it like that. During one of these difficult tasks she set herself out to do, Ruby felt she needed a break and opened a timeline where she could do something more simple. A good while back, Ruby had been experimenting a bit with mods that let you start a team with 1 billion in cash One of the game's achievements is to win a race with the australian William Evans, who is one of the absolute weakest drivers in the whole game. Doing this is alone already a massive investment of planning and general work... but what if she used that 1 billion, and made it the goal of making William into the world champion... in the highest series?

To make sure it wasn't a cakewalk, Ruby set the game's difficulty to +5/10 and got to work. As expected, even with all the money in the world the +5 difficulty was kicking her ass... until the first round of randomly generated drivers rolled around at the end of season 1. One of those drivers that appeared was an argentinian lady named Agostina Imbesi. A 2-star driver with 5-star potential... and not only really high marketability but also above average growth rate on top of that! This was an absolute monster of a regen driver, as after spending one year in reserve to grow her skills a bit faster, this lady proceeded to absolutely dominate the lowest series the next year! Then Agostina won the middle series despite the +5 difficulty AND only having the overall 4th best car, scored a win in the first year in the highest series and over the course of the next 4 seasons won a total of 50 races! On top of that, she got lucky enough to trigger the urgent mail of becoming a racer or timesheet hero... twice... AND she took a course to have wet weather training! Meaning that even after capping out all her stats with full 9 20's across the board, nothing could keep her from being anything but the single most powerful driver in the whole world!

Where was William during all this? He was driving to the best of his capabilities in the midfield or in the far back. His skills which had already capped out early on before reaching the top series, as a ~1.75-star driver, were really hampering any success he could possibly have. But the year after Agostina won the driver's title by a landslide for the second time, Ruby took both of her drivers to a room and sat down to make things clear what was being planned.
"To remind both of you, the reason I invested 1 billion into Predator is because I want you, William, to become the world champion in WMC. You will be given the best car and I want you to prove that you CAN win all of it if you put your mind to it. However, this doesn't mean it's gonna be a walk in the park; you must EARN that title! Agostina... I do not want you to slow down, I want you to keep driving your heart out. I want you to do everything in your power to still win! I know you have the skills to do this as you've proven yourself for the last 5 years already. In fact, I will not be upset if you DO end up beating William all the way to the part reset, because that would just mean the failure is on ME for failing to plan ahead properly."
At this point during the talk, William raised his hand, expressing that he has started to have issues keeping up mentally these days, and looking over him for a moment, this was when Ruby realized... these next two seasons were going to be William's last. It was the last two years before he retired, and the last two years before the part reset. Everything was set up, the team had no competitors left but themselves... and William was now faced with his true final boss; his very own teammate, the strongest driver in the world who was doing everything in her power to still win!

Even as Ruby kept improving William's car, making it 20% stronger than Agostina's, 25% stronger, (which in performance points was actually ~1500 points more on his car) teetering on the part reset threshold trigger... it was near impossible for William to actually catch up with his teammate, scoring 4th, 4th, 3rd, 4th, 2nd, 3rd, 4th... but he WAS catching up! In the first year of the final two, William did manage to win two races, something that Agostina had previously only failed to do once in the last 3 years due to a crash! Then, on the last season, Ruby saw it. William's stats had started to decay due to his age of 35! This was it, all or nothing!

The two fought hard at the front, their points being measured in number of wins and 2nd places instead of actual points. Agostina took an early lead winning the first four of 16 races while William's car kept being improved as quickly as possible. She was using the last year's car which itself was more than 2 seasons of power ahead of the other teams, and even then she was able to use her own skills to keep up with and often outdo William still! But it wasn't easy, especially when Ruby found out that William was having a mid-life crisis that year which of course impacted his driving abilties! No race was thrown, no team orders were used, no extra pitstop to sabotage Agostina's pace was performed. It was all pure racing where the winner would take it all! When there were 4 races left the two finally tied on points, and it was at this point Ruby also found out her fears that if neither of the two crashed or retired, William was going to have to win 3 of those last 4, as when they were tied, the scoreboard showed Agostina as the leader on points!

Final race, Brazil. William has won 3 races... he has to win this one or Agostina wins and Ruby's 1 billion investment was down the drain, the challenge having ended in failure. In fact, when I ordered this com, I hadn't finished the last season yet and had to think ahead of how the pic would be done should William have lost! Anyway, around halfway through the race there was a safety car pushed out... and doing some quick math, Ruby determined that if both William and Agostina were to go on low engine mode and put on the hardest tyres, they'd be able to get to the end. So they both got a full tank each, put on the hardest compound, and the battle of endurance begun. William lead the race, constantly chased by Agostina, and the kiwiboy was faced with a great challenge; his tyre survivability skills didn't allow him to actually go all out attacking while Agostina could! Defending for dear life, both cars completed lap after lap after lap... final lap. William was still leading and Agostina right up in his rear wing! Then, the fuel question made itself known; BOTH drivers ran out of fuel in the last few corners, and the one that ran out of fuel first was.... Agostina. William limped over the finishing line, exhausted to near death physically AND mentally! He had won! He was the world champion in his final year of driving!

On the podium, Ruby with tears in her eyes held up her two babies, the same two drivers that had gone from the bottom series to this final battle, literally everyone in the stands, in the team garages and in the commentator box were cheering for William, and as a show of good sportsmanship, Agostina helped the nearly collapsed William hold his well, well, WELL deserved trophy! It was absolutely an investment that was worth it, Ruby thought. Where there's a Will, there's a way.
