We tourists finally got to the Mayan ruins and the tour guide told us that this was a temple used for human sacrifices. He also told us about a ball game that the Ancient Mayans played in which teams would compete to have their leaders be chosen as a sacrifice. You're probably wondering why would the winner be a sacrifice. Well, it's because it was seen as a honor back then for the sacrificed man would join the gods (as least that's how I remembered it; it was back in June when I had that vacation). There were also these walls where the referee or someone would make a quick clap and that clap would echo loudly to signal that the game was over. Also, if you saw one word very fast and short, it would echo, too. This doesn't work with words that are dragged out, apparently.
