This is a completely black bird, with a large, curved, high beak lined with longitudinal striations. They measure 12 to 13 inches. Males and females are the same in coloring. They have a long tail and the wings are short and rounded, so they are not good flyers, but rather glide and flap. They have two toes directed forward and two backward on their legs. A distinctive feature is their song, which sounds like repeated "ti-jú" or "pi-jú".
