“I saw and also felt those claws growing out of my fingers, and while a part of me was convinced they should feel like foreign bodies piercing my flesh, they very much felt like a part of me, a part that had always been there, despite that it just showed up in this moment.

And it wasn’t the only place where it was happening. The same feeling appeared in my feet, like something was growing very quickly, or rather, in a way, feeling like it was awakening. Like a limb that had been numb for a long time, only to be filled by life again. It was a similar kind of stinging, like the pain of a thousand fine needles, as these new parts of me emerged.

I wiggled my toes as they changed, and already felt how the sensitivity of their undersides shifted. The same thick and yet sensitive callous appeared on them, only that I quickly realized that this new layer didn’t feel rigid and stiff, as callous would, but rather flexible and velvety. The wonder of seeing my limbs changed distracted me for a moment that all parts of me were changing, also my face.

The same pain of a thousand small needles was felt by me in my facial bones, a bit like accelerated growth pain.”
