Ascending the Corporate Ladder - Part 1

RaddaRaem

Corporate life is one full of drudgery, disrespect, and disappointment. Noa, but a simple intern, has internalized these lessons all too well.

One fateful morning, fate shines down upon the arctic fox as her errant wish for bigger and better things is granted.

"Won't this make me late?" Noa dejectedly IMed back.

The arctic fox's phone buzzed with her manager's terse and uncompromising answer. //God//. Syncing her phone to her work email, and messenger, had been the worst mistake Noa had ever made.

Dan: "nobody sweats the small shit like that"

"HR does," Noa hurriedly deleted from her drafted response. She knew damn well every swipe of her key card into and out of the office was tracked and time stamped. Teeth clenched, Noa responded as diplomatically as she was able.

Noa: "My time sheet was rejected the last time I logged "Coffee Run" under the Administration bucket. Per your instructions."

Dan: "just send it my way and I'll approve it anyway"

A spam of 'eye roll' emojis promptly clogged the screen. Thumb pressed against the backspace button, Noa mulled whether or not a response was even worth it. Shaking her head, she pocketed her phone with a growl. This wouldn't be the last time she'd be 'voluntold' to grab her manager some coffee on her way into the office and it damn well wouldn't be the last time he'd conveniently 'forget' to reimburse her. Hell, she hadn't even started stewing over how Dan would 'forget' he asked her to do so in the first place and pressure her to work overtime to make up for the hours rejected by HR.

"Asshole..." Noa all but snarled. "But then again... what did I expect?" Chin tucked against her chest, Noa fiddled with her name tag. Her job title, INTERN, boldly declared her perceived lack of worth. Shoulders slumped, the sharply dressed fox walked past her office, a towering skyscraper whose glass sides captured the reflections of the clouds sailing overhead, and sighed.

"The day hasn't even started and my feet are already killing me..." Noa whined as she seated herself. The white furred fox's high heels, scuffed and worn down, clung tightly to her swollen paws. It was a small mercy that she hadn't needed to wait for long to make her order.

Nostrils flared, Noa took in the smells of the hole in the wall she had ambled into for her coffee run. Djinn Delights, if she recalled correctly. Roasted coffee beans, vanilla extract, and cinnamon hung heavily in the air. None of which was meant for her.

Noa slouched forward in her chair while she waited for her name to be called. Eyes half lidded, she pulled out her phone and scrolled through a veritable library of drafted texts. Half finished thoughts and musings meant for nobody eye's but her own, journal entries practically, lit up the screen. With a tap of her her thumb, Noa started typing away at today's entry.

"I keep telling myself at least I'm a 'paid' intern, that something's better than nothing, but that's not enough to get me through the day any more. Coffee runs, donut runs, goddamn bagel runs. Anything and everything that isn't involved with engineering or production lines or any of the other roles in the company I'd actually be interested in learning about. :((((( God, I wish. Wish I could try on the manager hat for a day. Or shadow the CEO or... I don't know. Just... something. Something bigger. Something better. That's what I want. Or, fuck, at least have them call me their personal assistant or some shit. Might as well be honest with how they see me."

Footfalls, heavy and rhythmic, rattled Noa's table. "Order up," rumbled their owner.

Noa's ears perked at the gentle tink of ceramic. A cup of coffee, balanced atop a plate, was set before her. "Oh! I'm sorry, I think you have the wrong-"

The thooming footfalls continued apace as the gargantuan orange fox they radiated out from, her sapphire hair tied back into a braid, sauntered along. A faint jingle accompanied the gait of her step courtesy the metal bands dangling from her wrists.

Head cocked to the side, Noa couldn't help but blush at how confidently the colossus, easily twice her height, carried herself. That and how those clothes proudly failed to contain the generously proportioned vulpine's ample assets. Be it her enormous ass cheeks spilling over her waist line, that exposed and engorged stomach, or how her enormous chest pulled apart the buttons of her shirt...

"If only," the arctic fox thought. Running a hand through her hair, cropped short and dyed green, Noa uneasily regarded the steaming hot cup of coffee just waiting for her.

Hands cupped around the heated ceramic, Noa brought it close and inhaled deeply. She could smell the milk, sugar, and honey mixed in along with it. "I mean. It would be a shame to let it go to waste..."

Noa brought the cup to her lips and sipped gingerly. "Mmph!" Smacking her lips, the arctic fox looked about the cozy and dimly lit interior of Djinn's Delights. The enormous orange fox was nowhere to be seen. With a shrug, Noa pressed her luck. She eagerly imbibed mouthful after mouthful of the richest, sweetest, and most enervating blend of coffee she'd ever known! All while blissfully unaware of the curious glow her name tag had taken on. Much less the fact that the lettering upon it was slowly starting to reshape and rewrite itself.
