Cane's Sword

first image done shortly after receiving my laptop in December of 2011 (Sophomore year) The second was started and finished this evening showing my improvement the past 2-3 years. The redrawn background was kept simple (As it was simple back in the previous picture as well.) I tried to keep everything at the same criteria as the former picture aside from improvement of that style.

Also as an introduction to Cane (One of my many old adopted OC's) This bb was featured in an ancient comic strip of mine called Sea Dogs

Hi there! First off, I must congratulate you on your improvement over the past couple of years! Love the style that you've got going for Cane's face. :3 That said, I'd recommend you check out some skeletal and muscle studies of canines, as that would definitely help to flesh out Cane some more, even if you may not be going for a photorealistic look!

Also, be aware of how dogs hold objects in their mouths. Logically, it'd make more sense that the sword would lay perpendicular and flat across the tongue - however, should you ever revisit this, you could tackle the problem by having Cane's head tilt to the left to show more of the sword.

Thank you very much for the feedback. c: I do have a better hand on anatomy than my work would typically perceive. Drew up a quick sketch of the fella in a more "Realistic" pose. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2ur4jrn&s=8#.U4QNVfldWSo

Of course even that is far from being perfect. When I do true realism I almost always am required to use references although like the original done way back in 2012 this was a highly stylized piece. The sword is still more awkward even in that form and you are quite right to point it out. :'U
