Mordred and Evert (illustration)

These are maelweilh's characters Mordred and Evert, whom she asked me to draw in a medieval setting, which was lots of fun.

Mercifully it's a fantasy medieval universe, in which her characters live, so I did not have to worry too much about historical accuracy. (Nonetheless, the chess board is this board: ( http://www.extravaganzi.com/17th-ce.....d-at-sothebys/ ), the chess game just finishing is this game: ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPm9k6ul9EI ), the chess pieces are these pieces (even though there are extra pieces in that set and it's not meant for conventional chess): ( http://courierchess.com/thepainting.htm ), and the inspiration for my just cramming the characters in around a tiny precarious little table with no space for the pieces already taken is this stained glass window: ( http://www.pbase.com/bmcmorrow/image/101046191 ) The space is not based on any specific real world castle; the room's probably a bit too tall and narrow to a keep. I dunno. Maybe it's the castle's dedicated Unresolved Sexual Tension room.)

I also used no assistance from Illustrator or Rhino or any other program to make my perspective 100 percent correct by the numbers in this instance, seeing as how medieval artists weren't so constrained by the letter of the law of perspective (because no one had yet written that law. but still.); this time I just eyeballed the room and table and relative sizes of everything.
