Armor is usually just normal shapes and distorted to the body. And realistic metal armor is never as form fitting as most RPGs and stuff that people tend to draw. Most of the armor here is just circles and ovals with a little bit of definition.
References help, though. Always. Also never try to draw armor in a stiff manner. It'll make the entire thing look uncomfortable. If that helps.
