This is Brooks, he is a vulpfaux (one of my original species, which are short anthros that look like foxes but they are in fact not foxes) and he is a beast tamer. He plays his harmonica and by playing it he can fuse magic with his music to calm and to an extent control beasts. He is a bit of a trickster where he'll only calm down a beast attacking if he gets something out of it. Whether it be food, money, or an item that he wants. This can work in his favor if the small town of people are desperate and/or don't have much of a choice. But if the people do have other options then his schemes don't work too well.
