Cel-Shaded Basic Matcap by Phyla

Cel-Shaded Basic Matcap

Phyla

Made by me, though a lot of people have made and distributed matcaps like this, I think... Mainly this is a good reference for people who want to get a feel for how cel-shaded matcaps behave in the program, but this can be a fun style in it'self. You might want to pop this into GIMP or PS and make your own based on this, changing the direction of light, and the sizes of the shade zones. You might also experiment blurring... remember, light that is near, will cast hard shadows, light that is far away will cast soft. Good to know when making mat-caps for a scene in your head. The angle of the light will also define the hardness of the shadows. I tend to let the darkest zone have the harder edges and blur the inner ones so the specularity doesn't look glassy or plastic-y. I am by no means experienced with any of this stuff, just sharing what I learn as I do.
