Probably one of my first reasonably successful attempts at a somewhat detail-intensive background, and I'm sorry to report that in the years since, I haven't honestly gotten much better.

In Cistir, organic livestock and companion animals are prohibited in human society so instead they make magical steampunk cyborg critters called Familiars. This scene was supposed to be the workshop of one of the characters where they make the magic happen (tm)-- the thing in the big glass bubble isn't dying or being tortured, it just hasn't been 'born' yet.
