Different hives handle their bats differently. For example:

Gemini Hive is very inexperienced about keeping their unpaired succubats, but also refuses to release any into the wild on purpose, so they'll hoist bats onto whoever will take them, even giving bats to asymbiotes that they're sure won't pair with them. There's at least one member's house that has been filled to the brim with unpaired bats.

The Midnight Sun Hive also refuses to release bats into the wild, but is a lot better about keeping the bats, with facilities more like an animal shelter.
