The beast managed to slash Etesian across the chest and two red stripes appeared on her chest.

For a moment the Harpia let herself fall, thinking it was over, but luckily the wounds were mostly superficial and she regained her senses right after. The scratches hurt a lot, enough to make flying quickly harder, erasing completely the option of relying on speed and agility for the young Stryx. Her only chance to fly away safely would be to land a serious hit on the massive Stryx, possibly on the eyes, so that the pain could act as a distraction and give her precious moments to find a good hiding place or dart towards safety. The chances of this being a suicidal move were pretty high, but it was the only possible thing to do.

Etesian was flying as fast as possible to gain height on the massive creature, with her heart beating out of her chest and the wounds hurting with every movement. The screech of the Stryx roared against the canyon’s walls, making it even more terrifying than before. Etesian’s panic turned into pure instinctive will to survive.

It was now or never.

One deep breath.

One last beat of wings.

One second of stall in the hot desert air.

The dive against the screeching beast began.
