Lalit, musk deer (Old Art)

numberxxxvi

When i first drew Lalit some years ago, he was a petit fella with short green hair in an emo fringe, and somewhat inaccurate ears. I figured it was time for a new drawing, but as i started to draw him, i felt like there were a few changes to be made- one of those cases where a character seems to push their own design.

Lalit grew up the son of a Sikh family, and as the years went by it became clear that his ancestry-- his mother being a musk deer like himself, his father being human --meant that he wasn't going to be growing a beard, and the placement of his ears made wearing a turban impractical. This caused more than a little friction, and he was accused often enough of being secular and trying to avoid baptism, that in a fit of teenage rebellion he got a haircut and ran away from home. Since that time, he's reconciled with his family, and is struggling to decide what place religion has in his life. At the same time, he's started studying Magical Guardianship at Intercourse University, hoping to honor the warrior traditions of his family while at the same time expressing himself in his own way.
