And here we have it my first real drawing of one of The Beautifully Damned’s most important characters, Mother (AKA Rayne).

She is the last Living Ancient (which is to say one of the origin points for the vampire race and there for one of the fallen angels that followed Lucifer out of heaven) and is the leader of the large nest of vampires That Julian and julius is originally sent to destroy. Rayne is referred to by mother by most of her followers being the oldest of her race and is powerful and influential. She's spent a great deal of her existence trying to find the most recent incarnation of Lucifer (Isis) so that she may wage war against humans, who she feels inherited the world wrongfully.

In The beautifully damned it is mentioned that "her accent is strange and unheard of" and that "Her people must have died out long ago" but I've always imagined her having a middle eastern appearance and accent. So I tried to incorporate that into her picture. Also she is described as being "close to nude" most of the time (as vampires have a different since of modesty than humans) but I wasn't exactly sure how to draw the outfits that I had described in the book. So I went with this one.
