She has had this ability since birth, having inherited it from her mother, who herself is a shaman who practices her art to communicate with spirits or the astral world, and can also fight them, if they are evil spirits.

Despite being a shaman like her mother who can see ghosts, she never studied shamanism more than that, which she had studied with her mother from a young age, but Alyssa gave up as a teenager, because of a past event that made her disconnect from that.
