Runes

Drawing of my Cavitto Stallion, Athanasios, and his companion, Tyresios.

Background:
Anasios is a stallion of few words and is not much of a social fellow around others: Cavitto, immortals or mortal. He prefers to be left alone. Despite his name sake, he knows that he’ll have a crossroad to decide upon: to return home or to venture down into a darker path. Yet that time is far off.

He prefers to be called by his full name, Athanasios, or by his nickname of Anasios. Only if you dare, do you call him, Athanas. He despises the name and you’re guaranteed to be on his bad side with a high change of being kicked. Though, he usually lets no one near him ever anyway.

Years after their banishment from Mount Olympus and his wandering, hope soon faded and desperation soon set in. Anasios wanted to be back home, though Hade’s offer was becoming more and more tempting every time he laid to rest among the ripening grapes of a vineyard. Yet he didn’t want to turn his back from the Mount Olympus.

His loner life changed one night as he walked back to his small spot that he called ‘home’ to put his mind at ease. Anasios didn’t want to harm the vineyard when he lashed out after he stepped into a belled snare, meant to keep the rabbits and other pests from feeding upon the grapes as they ripened, surprised him on a path he’s used since he found this small paradise. He paused to hear someone coming before looked at all the grapes strewing all over the ground – ripe and unripe – dropping his ears.

To his surprise, a young boy came out to investigate the alarm with a lantern and he tensed as something bumped against his pasture bone. Anasios looked back, cocking his head to one side, and let out a snort which startled the boy. The boy hesitated before feeling around to find the snare to get it undone. As the boy struggled to get it removed, it soon dawned on Anasios that the boy was blind. He couldn’t see that he was trying to untangle a horse and not some rabbit or small creature.
