Sterling Silver, Brass, Coarse Salt, Male Dubia Cockroach

I've been working out how to make a wireframe vessel for a while now, and I finally got to making it this year!
I'm really excited about this direction it's giving me a lot of ideas for future work! feel free to share ur thoughts/critiques/questions!

-artist's statement:
"In this piece I use a male Dubia cockroach as a symbol of how the abuse I experienced as a young child and the sexual assault I experienced as an adult have defined me as an “other.” I acknowledge this form by preserving it in coarse salt and giving it a place of rest. I play with ideas of purity and profanity and reconceptualize what we call profane or disgusting. The cockroach serves as “the other,” less than, unworthy, vulgar, unwanted. The vessel serves as a defined separate place, the cage or category designated for the other to exist within. The piece is about finding pleasure or comfort in the vessel and reclaiming that space."
