In some alternate universe to the one Nikita lives in, bio-engineering and cybernetics didn't evolve so much. Instead, theoretical physic developed at a faster rate than in in our world, allowing for limited wormholes to be created to travel between planets of our solar system and cities. Cases of people disappearing in these portals were rare, but they happened, though with no visible results.

Niki found out himself the hard way though. Looking to take a short trip between America and Europe, he instead found himself in 1915 France. Not only was he stuck there, but he probably caused this other timeline to diverge a bit from its original path by being a furry in a human world. Unknown to him, he had also carried the virus who had caused people to mutate into anthro creatures in his timeline, Seems like Niki will go down in history as being the first 'furry' ever, as well as having fought valiantly on the front, though no history books could prepare him for it.

Sadly, this alternate version of Nikita died of the Spanish Flu after the war and he was forgotten until some historian found this strange portrait of a dog-man.
