I was trying to focus on mood, lighting, values, etc. with this sketch...as well as my friend's suggestion to draw an entire scene rather than just a figure.
So, here's Max sitting on the steps of a basement belonging to a German family that was kind and brave enough to hide him. While he feels tremendous relief over this situation, he is also racked with intense guilt over the risk he poses to the family. (It's not particularly clear but he's supposed to be holding a mug.)
I really need to draw Max doing something other than sitting and looking miserable. :P Ideas welcome!

Really, though, for someone in his situation, there aren't too many options, are there?
Reading, writing, listening to the radio, eating. Praying, if he's orthodox.
He's caught at some point, so, working in the camp?
I imagine, in his situation, you wouldn't be doing much besides staring into space when you were alone. He'd likely do more around others.
