Terraus by Mitch DLG

Terraus

Mitch DLG

Once, there existed a land in central Africa where everyone had a place in life, an occupation of their own. All but Terraus. He was young, inexperienced, and had no aim to his life, and no true skills to speak of. When it came time to make a life for himself, he could find no employment, and was soon dejected and hopeless.

But Garfife, the creator of all, saw the hyena's dilemma, and gave him a job, the greatest in the land. Terraus was granted a fan blade that enabled him to ride upon the clouds, and control the wind with a mere sweep. A tap from its rounded butt send thunder pealing over the countryside. He was also given a dagger the likes of which the world had never seen. Glass-handled and sheathed in a glass scabbard, the blade was lightning itself, and with it he could control both bolts and rain.

So happy was Terraus to have a job, and one of such incredible status at that, that he worked his very hardest to provide for all in his area. Things went well for many years until one farmer offered him money to get a little more rain. Terraus, who never had really thought about the full extent of his power, began to grow greedy, and soon his power went to his head as e became cruel and demanding. Soon the lands turned from prosperous farms into dust, as he demanded more and more from the villagers for fair weather.

Here he sits on a storm-cloud, brimming full of the rain that his people so desperately need, but he is unwilling to give it up without his price being met. One should always be careful to remember that those in places of power exist to serve the people, not them serve him.
