I actually had this idea for a while now but only just now sat down to draw it out. I love the idea of a girl who adores pastels and loves being bright! She's muslim and prefers bright coloured hijabs, usually with a cute pattern.

This is mostly a design drawing, so pose and body may seem a bit awkward/boring. I want to draw her in other outfits as well, and not just pinks and purples. Face details may change as I was concentrating on the outfit this time around, I need a bit more time to design the face more.

I'd like to let you know something: this image opened my eyes.

When I first saw it I thought she was adorable, but I was also confused. "Why does she look so happy? And why is her hijab brightly colored? I thought they had to be black and boring..." Etcetera. I looked it up. I was astonished. All my life I've been mislead. I thought hijab and other coverings were NEVER worn because the Muslimmah actually WANTED to wear them, that it was ALWAYS fundamentalist Islamic men forcing them to wear them. This revelation compelled me to do further research on Islam. I learned all kinds of new things. I didn't even know Muslims believed in Christ. I'd been lead to believe it was all the worship of their one and only prophet, and boy was I wrong.

Thank you for drawing this and thank you for posting it. This picture lead me to a much greater understanding of a major religion.

I'm super glad you could find that out! Tumblr is a big reason why I know more about it, but also a friend of mine is muslim. I will readily admit I'm very ignorant on many things, one reason being school either teaching us incorrectly or teaching us lies, and the other being I have a hard time with such research and remembering it. She's always ready to answer any questions I have though, so I learn a lot this way. She chooses not to wear a hijab, and I also went to her ask questions before I designed this, to make sure I represented the culture correctly, and see if my idea would actually work, which it did! If you're interested in the clothing, my friend linked me to this, and you can see how many beautiful scarves they wear: http://hijab-fashion.tumblr.com/

You have the fortune of knowing a Muslim and getting some first-hand knowledge. I don't. Thank goodness there's so much information out there on the internet!

That's a cool fashion blog. Thanks for the link. ^_^
