Something Different

So I've been wanting to experiment with scenes like this for aaages now, but it's never really been the right time - today I got inspired though, so here's a little scene I wrote out ages ago when I was working on the story between these two :0 I've been thinking more about actually writing full stories about them as well since recently I've found writing really relaxing, but I'm not really sure honestly.

I haven't done much scene work or writing like this before so constructive criticism is welcome! It's a little sketchy this time, but hopefully I'll have time to do even better pieces in the future ^o^/

Plush quietly tinkered with a large, partially-made plushie as Secret watched her intently. She was surprised of the small pony’s ability to focus so intently on creating something; her usual hesitant self suddenly fixated and moving with conviction to complete the stitching of her current work. Secret wondered how she could possibly work so intricately with her hair covering so much of her eyes… and suddenly it occurred to her that she had never fully seen Plush’s eyes before. Curiosity secretly overwhelming her, Secret moved closer to the small unicorn and wasn’t noticed until she was almost towering over her.

“Huh? I-is something the matter?”

“Oh... nothing. I just…” Secret didn’t quite know what to say to explain her actions, but she inched closer, “...want to see something…”

She lifted the soft yellow and pink bangs from Plush’s face, revealing a set of large, matching eyes. They seemed to sparkle as they realised what had just happened, and her pale fur quickly turned bright red.

“W-w-wahh?? What are you d-doing?”

“I wanted to see your eyes. My theory was correct it seems - they’re very charming.” She smiled gently at Plush, feeling an odd calmness wash over her, when something else caught her eye. “What’s this…?”

Plush’s face blushed even more as she realised Secret’s gaze had fixed upon a pastel pink diamond marking on her forehead, just beneath her horn.

“Plush, I never knew you had a forehead marking. It’s so…”

... cute. It’s SO cute, Secret thought to herself, unable to actually speak the words out loud. Her mostly calm demeanor hid a sense of confusion and butterflies - she wasn’t used to feeling this way about another pony. How could she be so cute?!

Plush shuffled slightly in the silence, her eyes sinking to the floor. She spoke, snapping Secret out of her own frantic thoughts.

“… You think it’s weird, don’t you?”

“N-no, why would I think something like that?”

“I’ve... never liked it. Ponies stare at it…”

Secret hummed to herself, turning away from her slightly to hide the slight hint of a blush encroaching on her own face. She tried to speak bluntly to cover the sincerity in her voice.

“Well, I like it. You shouldn’t hide a part of yourself like that. Embrace what makes you unique.”

Plush’s doll-like eyes looked back up towards her.

“Y-you think so? My mama always said I look pretty with my mane up… maybe other ponies would like it too?”

“Yeah-”

As she spoke suddenly a distressing thought popped into Secret’s head. Wait… other ponies noticing… noticing Plush? Is that something I want to happen? Other ponies starting to notice how cute she is??

In the mess of her thoughts Secret stumbled to amend what she had thoughtlessly just said.

“-Uh, but you also look fine the way you are, there’s no need to change to please others.”

“Ah… yeah, you’re right. Thank you Secret.”

Plush smiled sweetly, then turned back to continue her work with a new hum. Secret sighed to herself, feeling as though she had dodged a bullet and yet shot herself in the hoof at the same time.

Jeez, what is wrong with me?
