This is Phoenix, the San Antonio Zoo's new little Komodo dragon hatchling.

He was hatched from a clutch of eggs laid by his mother a few months before she died of smoke inhalation during a fire in her exhibit.

He's also pretty neat because his mother hadn't been housed with the male Komodo dragon in over three years. Gotta love that sperm storage!

He's so cute and I love the colors! He was a week old when I visited him and took this shot. Only his second day on view.
