Zelda stood there, holding the incapacitated Time Lord's only tool, his Sonic Screwdriver, and didn't know what the Hell to do with it.

"How does he work this thing?" the red panda thought to herself. She dare not speak it, because just on the other side of the door was one very angry alien. The Doctor may have called it a Gerethian, but she wasn't certain. There had been a lot of running, and she had only recently found this strange man.

They had nearly been safe when a sudden blast from their pursuer knocked the Doctor cold. Left with just this strange glowing stick, she held it out like it was a sabre, like she was to duel with it.

The door banged. It shook. Something was punching, kicking at the door, and being made of wood it probably wouldn't hold long.

Zelda turned and kicked the Doctor hard in the side. "Doctor! Wake up! I don't know how to work this thing!"

The Doctor groaned, rolling over. He was dazed, really dazed. Little birds would be flying around his head if this was a cartoon.

The door crashed open behind Zelda. A low moan followed, the sound of a Gerethian ready to feed. She wheeled around and waved the screwdriver at the alien with extreme prejudice.

"I...have a glowing stick! And I'm not afraid to use it."

The alien let out a laugh. "And what is that supposed to do?" The creature leaned closer, big jaws full of uneven teeth glinting right in the red panda's face.

A hand landed on Zelda's, and aimed it at the Gerethian's mouth. "Hopefully, incapacitate you long enough to let us run." The Doctor hit the purple button, and an ear-piercing shriek filled the room. Zelda wanted to fold up and cry, but the Doctor had her by the arm and drug her toward an exit.

The TARDIS was across the compound, and as they ran, as Zelda's hearing returned, she yelled to the Doctor. "Is that what it does? Just make noises?"

"It's one of the many definitions of sonic, yes!"

"That seems perfectly useless!"

"My dear, you're not dead, are you?"

"Well, no."

"Then I'd say it did it's job!"
