The red ribbon/rope things on the wolf represent his ties to like a.k.a. "life lines", the ones that break mean that he is closer to death.

The bottom half of the wolf was one of the most annoying things I've drawn...it was so hard to get those back legs right(and the one still looks funky >>). It was doing something in black, red and white though <3
