Tobias began his life as a kitsune as an ordinary four-legged fox, living with his family in a small burrow on the islands of Nippon. One day as he was out with his father on a hunt, the young fox recklessly ran forth without a care, until an arrow came streaking towards him. His father leapt in the way and took the arrow in the eye before ordering Tobias to flee.

The young fox ran back to his den, followed by the hunters, who caved it in. Tobias fled once again, his mother and sister assumed dead. After he finally collapsed from exhaustion, he dreamed of an angelic voice and saw all sorts of knowledge in his dream before waking as an anthropomorphic fox with an affinity for magic: the Gift of the Kitsune.

Now, Tobias wanders the realms of Zhonggou as a minstrel and magician. Recently, a rumor has crossed his path of a new warlord in Nippon who has constructed a stout keep near his former den; a cruel fox shogun with an affinity for magic and missing one eye. Perhaps someday, Tobias will venture East to face a fear he hides deep down...
