In this universe, humans are quite resistant to magic. Clay cast a perception spell on himself so that the humans wouldn't realize he was a monster, but it only works if they don't stop to think about it.



Lilac the human thinks monsters are cute. She doesn't realize that Clay's a monster yet, but she must know it on some subconscious level, because she thinks he's the cutest boy she's ever seen.
