Salincomorphs, or snail people, are human beings who can turn into snails.

Contrary to proper belief, a salincomorph's primary or "true" form is actually their human form.

Although technically part of the human species, salincomorphs have the ability to change into a snail-like form. This form retains certain human features, such as eyes, hair, and skin color, while including a shell and vestigal stalks and omitting any limbs. The process of metamorphisis uses innate magic, but the origin and purpose of this alternate form are still unknown.

Despite the snail-like apperance of a salincomorph's alternate form, analysis of the underlying structure of the body shows that salincomorphs are unrelated to other gastropods. The presence of a snout, a feature not typically associated with snails, suggests some degree of snake or dragon ancestry.

A salincomorph will typically grow a shell when switching to snail form. This shell is not large enough for the individual to retract themselves into. Some salincomorphs prefer to abandon their shell after transformation.

A salincomorph's first transformation can happen anywhere between the ages of 5 and 20. The experience can be frightening for children, especially those whose families do not come from a magical background.

Many teenage salincomorphs have difficulty controlling their transformations, which can lead to embarrassment and poor self-esteem. Adult salincomorphs can usually control their transformations.

There is no reliable way to prevent a salincomorph from switching forms. The use of magic is not recommended, as exposure to magic can trigger or exacerbate accidental transformations, especially in adolescents and teens.

It is important to remember that salincomorphs are human beings, and to treat them with compassion and understanding. Salincomorphs who are comfortable with and in control of their transformations can live fulfilling and productive lives.
