He was turned into a human at the age of 1 by a magic spell when his sister wished for a brother. He grew up as a human and learned to talk. The spell began to wear off 14 years later, and as he started to turn back into a Tyrogue he found himself so obsessed with training and fighting that he couldn't live a human life anymore.

Many years later he was caught by the leader of the local Pokemon gym. At the gym he was able to train on a regular basis. He began to help the other Pokemon train too.

He didn't want the gym leader to find out he could talk, because he was afraid that she would treat him like a human and not like a Pokemon. But she eventually found out somehow.

Once she left the gym he became the new gym leader.
