Wow I haven't really been on Weasyl much. wanna know why? because Starbound.
specifically, i bought Starbound a couple days ago :> and of course i'm playing it with some mods, especially the amazing Avali race mod. i'm still fiddling around getting used to the controls, but it's been pretty dang fun so far!
so of course i drew my avali, Skrillex. (all those clothes are ingame things I picked up on a friend's server, although tweaked a little)
Skrill is just kind of a dork that likes exploring new planets but is prrrrretty bad at it. he's rather uncoordinated, falls in holes a lot, and panics badly whenever hostile fauna so much as looks at him, but he's pretty mean on a clarinet.
basically i just run off and die while my friends are the ones actually building our base |D

For me it's kind of the opposite, mostly because I'm pretty ass at getting the hang of things so I'm pretty much always on my friend's server while they show me the ropes, and my experience with singleplayer led to a lot of death (mostly because I wasn't used to the controls and was having trouble defending myself against horrible pissed-off aliens).
'Course in my case it's more "everyone else knows how to do things so I'm basically hanging on with training wheels"; if it wasn't for that then yeah. I'm probably gonna make a singleplayer-only character sometime and see how that goes, but right now my impression is that multiplayer is pretty fun and adds a new dimension to everything.
Especially when my multiplayer experiences so far were a) my girlfriend accidentally burying me in a hole b) two of my friends going to a random planet (while I stayed on their ship) and then beaming back up screaming about acid rain and c) getting murdered by poo monsters when separated from the group. xD-
Yeah, that does sound like a good time. I think playing it too soon spoiled it for me, I pretty much got to see all there was for nothin, the difficulty balance was hella wack for a long time :P

Starbound is pretty dope, it's been a long time since I played though. Got into it during the early beta and found it was just way too much hassle to interact with other players / not a lot of incentive to do so. Kinda felt like a single-player game that other people just happened to be in.
Maybe it's different now, idk, but I think I'll wait for the finished ver. to play again
