When I started drawing 7 years ago, what I did first was to analyze the technique of a few artists I like and learn bits of each to add to my own repertoire and build my own style with those tools. Now I realized I haven't done this in so long, so decided to give a try at an artist I haven't tried to analyze closely yet.

This is a study of RUdragon chibis, mostly their baby/young characters. I was able to understand a few of the details about their process and tried replicate it as good as I could. Of course I might have missed important rules and techniques they use... I'm not very good, but I think I captured a fair part of the style.

Some details I saw, in case any of you want to try this style, are:

-Lineart in fixed pen size, and in a color that matches the greater ammount of tones in the character. Except for the eyes which are pitch black..
-No hard lighting or reflections except for the eyes which reflect full white line and dots, and metallic surfaces.
-No very dark colors unless it's a black&white piece.
-THICC lower body.
-Knees and feet pointing inwards for cuteness. This is key to the style "feel".
-High stabilization for the lineart, low anatomy detailing... keep it roundy and simple.
-Shading very softened, then erase some edges inside the lineart, then hard shade few darker areas.
-Very subtle and minimalistic lighting.

If you keep those points in mind you should be able to get pretty close to that style, but avoid tracing and referencing poses closely, you don't learn much that way and it's borderline theft... So just focus on UNDERSTANDING what rules and habits are behind the process and work it from scratch.

As I mentioned, understanding these rules helps a lot to grab on techniques that you might like to add to your arsenal if you're eager to learn.

Big shout out to RUdragon for their cute and awesome work. Go check 'em out if for some reason you found me first, lol.

Very nice piece of work you've got here! I definitely enjoyed reading the breakdown alongside viewing the picture -- I look forward to seeing more of these if you've got 'em planned for the future! :)

Thank you! I might do it again sometime for other artists I like :) Maybe Jay Naylor/Fisk next, though he's not been very active here or on FA lately.
