The Khet are a species that I have been developing for the revamped Chimera Universe setting.

The Khet have had an unfortunate history. Their patrons (the species that created them) were so abusive that rebelling and waging a genocidal war against them was their only viable option in millenias gone by. The war left their planet polluted, irradiated, and barely habitable. Overtime the technology they 'inherited' broke down, and they had to simplify the shit out of things just to keep their civilization functioning.

Some technology broke down faster than others. Some had to be greatly simplified. And some proved surprisingly easy to make, or there was a substitute that could be used in its place.

As such it is common to find low frequency communications systems and towers (like the one in the picture) alongside single shot rifles that use paper cartridges. The Khet wouldn't bat an eye at bullet resistant silk armor (like the guard here is wearing) or light bulbs made by glass blowers. Crystal radios and transmitters are fairly common, but no one would have seen anything like a TV for millenia. No one would give a steam engine a second glance, but a car with an internal combustion or electric engine would be something they would tell their grand children about when they are old and gray.
