[2012] Roz & Stanley

lameboat

December 2012.

NPC characters I did up for the Gwangi Gold Rush competition on dA which I never actually joined; I think I didn't finish quite in time to sign up.

Roz was an orphan sent from the U.K. (see "child migration" & "home children") to live in Rupert's Land (Canada); she ended up with a small family of stegosaurid farmers (steg steaks, delicious) and grew up ranching and working with stegs. She worked as a clerk for her family's butcher shop during her youth, and went on to become a school teacher -- less for her love of children, and more for her love of a regular paycheque (bless her parents but "all the steg you can eat" is not a convenient form of currency).

Stanley was purchased by her parents as an experiment -- they were told that the kentrosaurus, being a smaller species of steg than their usual stock, would be a more cost-effective animal as they would require less space and less feed. They were glad they only got the one.
Considerably more agile and playful than his larger cousins, the energetic young kentro ended up costing them more in both repairs and constructing more secure containment areas within the first three months than the entire herd had in years. Roz saw a training challenge, and took him on as her personal pet.
