I sketched this bird in my sketchbook while listening to the song, which has many emotional memories for me. Ever since I was a kid, I wanted a tattoo of a blackbird to symbolize death and setting the soul free. I think the most important reason I want this tattooed is because it truly reminds me of my father. Although our relationship isn't the greatest, I'll never forget listening to this song on the way home the day we buried my rabbit Daisy. I was only 9 then, but I remember holding back tears until I was safely in my bed at night. I couldn't let them know I was suffering. I couldn't let them know how much I loved a living-being, after how bratty I was as a child.
But deep in my heart, I listened to this song and mourned for the loss of my animal. One day, I know I will mourn the loss of my father, and I will always have this as a reminder to "take these broken wings and learn to fly."
