I suppose you could call this the knitting equivalent of a sketch.
I drew a canine paw print design on some grid paper and made this to see how well it translates to being knit up. I think it works out pretty well. I fixed the far right toe in my pattern already. I was hoping for a slightly asymmetrical look, but I think I'll have to do that with just the toe placements rather than their shape.
It's kinda sloppy looking because, well, I did knit it pretty quick and with the first pair of needles I grabbed, which are a few sizes too big for this yarn. It gets the idea across well enough. I'm planning on making some scarves with this pattern. I'm thinking of the sort of scarves with pockets, or just fuzzy scarves in general.
