Goron Kree by Kree

Goron Kree

Kree

So last weekend I went back to play some more Majora's Mask.

I was intending to spend some more time in the Swamp, because I've always liked Dekus (and Zelda's forest areas in general) the best. Lots of jumping around on lily pads and such.

Instead, I ended up spending almost all my time in Snowhead. I finished the temple and collected all the Stray Fairies, and finally ended after winning that gold dust bottle (I hadn't planned ahead with the sword forging, so I just sold it). As a result I spent most of my time as a Goron.

So I decided to draw Deku Kree glaring angrily at Goron Kree for stealing all of the time he was supposed to have that weekend 😛

Now that I'm replaying MM, I've noticed (moreso than the last time, at least) how both Woodfall and Snowhead have a different vibe than OoT's Temples. Naturally the Temples had to be designed to test the literal player, but MM's Temples feel a lot like the they were designed for heroes who aren't Link. In OoT, the Temples had their flavours, but they were tests for the Hero of Time. Woodfall was designed to test a Deku hero, and Snowhead for the hero of the Gorons. I haven't revisted Great Bay yet, but from what I remember it was a maze of pipes and machines that I would dread to navigate without a Zora. Even the people of Ikana, long dead by the time Link arrives, has a temple designed for humans/Hylians/whatever. The Stone Tower is the only one that really becomes "Link's Temple". For the other three it's more like he's playing a role, providing a worthy vessel for the hero that Temple was made for.

Darmani, hero to the Gorons; Mikau the Zora rock star; and poor Deku Butler's son, favourite of the princess. It feels like the temples were designed to test each region's respective hero. If it weren't for Majora, all three of them might have been the ones to brave their respective Temples.

Heh, could you imagine a 4-player remake of MM, with live simultaneous co-op of every quest? It'll never happen, but boy would that be something… 😛
