Centipede by knitwolf

Centipede

knitwolf

One of my early knitted stuffed toy projects. This centipede was created a long time ago in an attempt to face and conquer my fear of centipedes. I figured that by thinking about them enough to create a design and to make it appealing, I would grow accustomed to them and not be so afraid.

I really, really dig what you did there, in the comment

Thank you. I like to try to face my fears when I can, especially in cases such as this where I knew that it was irrational and doing me no good

How do you get along with centipedes now?

As I said, I don't love them, but I'm a lot better than I used to be. There was once a time when if I saw a centipede I would freak out and have to smash it with something. I certainly don't do that now, and I can see the benefit of their presence as they can control the levels of other insects around

I used to be afraid of deer skulls, (someone chased me with one when I was a kid)

    Now I'm a little obsessed.

I also used to be afraid of grubs, the sort that get in your lawn. I exposure therapied myself and then was teaching it to someone on the play ground that was also afraid of them. I eventually had her holding one.

That's awesome! Congratulations on turning your fear into something to be enjoyed. :D
Personally, I still wouldn't say I love centipedes, but I'm not afraid of them like I used to be

I used to have a Giant African Millipede. Do the millipedes bother you?

No, not at all, actually. I haven't had nearly as much exposure to them as to centipedes, but what exposure I have had to millipedes has never been a problem for me
