Funny story. Lerno, if you see this and would rather leave that private, just tell me, but I don't see anything wrong with it.
Well, remember that last pic I got from lerno? You know, that beautiful one of Akhlys standing in water during night? The paypal invoice for this had "for friends and family". Now, if you send a payment through paypal like this, there are no fees, so it's win-win, right? The problem is that that's not correct. As soon as it's international or paid by card, there are fees - but instead of the receiver paying them as would be usual and expected, the sender pays them, making the commission (in this case) $7 more expensive.
But far more important that this, in my eyes at least, is that you do not get any buyer protection from paypal if it's sent through "friends&family", meaning in case an "artist" turned out to be of the scam sort, you'd have no way to get your money back through paypal at least. see http://goo.gl/nEytdm
For those reasons, an artist sending an invoice for "friends & family" (like in this case) or demanding that from you is a huge red flag.
I decided to risk trusting Lerno, as I could do a chargeback through the credit card company if worst came to worst (who knows how paypal would react to that), but sent them a note detailing exactly what I wrote above.
Lerno wasn't aware of that.. and really sorry for it. Offered me a headsot as an excuse.. and despite me telling them that this was unneccessary, I still got it! whee \o/
So, that's the story behind this one.
Remember, kids, don't use friends&family for commissions :)
