The Death of Giraffe by Kium

The Death of Giraffe

Kium

My final for my design class. We had to choose an artist for inspiration and I immediately went to Cai Guo-Qiang. We could use any medium so I decided to use stone hedge, sepia copic pens (.005, .01, .03) and Winsor and Newton Ink. I wanted to create something eye catching and almost to the point of disturbing so the viewer is drawn in yet at the same time the giraffe stares directly at them making them want to step back. I choose a giraffe because I feel like it could create a much greater impact as it is usually seen as a gentle giant. The meaning is open to interpretation in relation to the viewer.

The photo doesn't exactly do it any justice, there's a lot of small details I included. It got a lot of positive feed back and they loved it. My professor was a big fan of the line weight.

Very well done, and incredibly difficult to describe why it's so intriguing and disturbingly beautiful. I like it :3

Your choice of vines instead of gore catches my attention. It conveys the same feeling without being graphic.
