"Why are you carrying around a huge bag full of books all day?" Cherry asked
"There's not enough room in my locker to fit all of them," Heather replied. "There's only about a hundred pounds of them, so it's not a bother to bring them around with me."

They knew each other before they gained their special abilities, though it seems obvious in retrospect that they were destined to have them.
