The people of the Hills, where Tatsuya is from, know very little about the North. There are stories of monstrous creatures who stalk the mountains and the tundra, and of barbaric tribes of people living in caves and snow huts, but these are just stories. So, Tatsuya believes that he must make his way into this unknown land, both to evade his pursuers, and to hopefully discover some truth about his strange connection to the supernatural.
