Finally finished the new reference sheet for the Grand General :o

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Born in the Terran-year 1984 on the planet of Strax, Amarkovek Galkarot was the first of two sons by a well-known Straxian politician father and a Strax Defense Force officer mother.

In 1989, forces belonging to the Solaris Union invaded Strax. In the opening of the invasion, Amarkovek, aged five, witnessed his parents’ deaths before he and his brother were spirited away by routed SDF forces. Evacuated away with other civilians to a large SDF base in the mostly inhospitable northern region of Strax, the brothers survived the initial invasion.

((Note: a clarification; Amarkovek, his brother, and father were home at the time of the invasion with Amarkovek's mother being gone. For most of the morning they could hear distant gunfire and explosions, and their father could not contact their mother. As day turned into afternoon, their mother comes in, bloodied, she gives a qick explanation as to whats going on (their father thinks its the one city "finally" starting a fight for independence) - he then implores his wife to take the kids somewhere safe and after some arguing, she does; leaving their father.

His father, being a well known politician, was on the Union's list to capture so they could ensure power.

Amarkovek's mother takes the kids to an outpost being used as an evacuation point, she goes with them to the next base.

They travel to a few different bases, increasingly moving north, before they are finally settled in one of Strax's northern regions largest bases.

In the coming weeks, it has become clear that Strax was now under Union occupation. The Union bring important individuals, including Amarkovek's father, into the square in the capital and execute them. Amarkovek (and his brother) watching on a television.

His mother is furious, and joins a group of SDF volunteers being formed for the first actual major counter attack later that week , where she is killed.

With the failure of the counter attack, the SDF realize that they have become the resistance, and begin preparing as such - retreating all their remaining assets to the more inhospitable northern regions where they can more easily hide, beginning the Straxian Resistance era))

Over the next few years Amarkovek would study and help around the base when and where he could until he was nine and embarked on his first resistance operation. Luring Union troops into ambushes, the boy aided with the stealing equipment from the occupying forces. He and his brother both threw themselves into military studies as they grew, with Amarkovek learning to use weaponry and also going out of his way to learn tactics, strategy, and history.

Soon after turning seventeen, Amarkovek lost his brother during a raid on a Union fuel depot used to fuel their transports off-world. Further galvanized by the loss of his last living relative, Amarkovek turned his studies towards military leadership and focused upon this goal single-mindedly.

Be it due to his cold and calculating nature, or the success of his studies, Amarkovek would soon find himself placed in charge of a small resistance squad. A stepping stone to greater ambitions, Amarkovek set his own plans into motion at this early stage. The young man knew that, once Strax was liberated, a weak Straxian Empire would be reformed from the ashes as a hollow shell of its former self; an already weak Empire made even weaker by a humiliating defeat. Primarily driven by the knowledge that pre-war politics had placed Strax in such a vulnerable position in the first place, Amarkovek’s hard-line views were carefully cultivated and translated into actions.

Two years later, during a resistance operation to recover Straxian Empire tech, Amarkovek uncovered pre-war plans to recover a drifting alien ship that had been discovered in the system's asteroid belt. Naturally, such a discovery had been covered up, and well at that; there was every chance that the dormant, semi-restored vessel was still out there.
Upon his return to headquarters the young officer marched unphased to the resistance’s high command and requested a meeting, citing a “War ending” discovery. Patiently waiting, as a capable officer would, Amarkovek earnt his meeting through persistence and patience.

However, with several members of high command assembled to hear what intelligence the officer had uncovered, the mask slipped ever so slightly. The plans were revealed but, in an impassioned move, Amarkovek demanded command over the operation to recover the vessel, even threatening to destroy the plans if he was refused.

Reluctantly, and only after an internal argument, high command came to the agreement that the officer could lead the mission – a chance to swiftly evict the invaders was worth overlooking an office’s outburst. Ironically, the voice of reason that convinced their peers to forgive the improper conduct of an officer who had lost his family to the war would be one of the first to be “Removed” when the time came.

In a major operation, Amarkovek and a hand-picked team of commandos broke Straxian orbit and bypassed the planetary blockade in a small, cramped shuttle. Even though doubt had persisted thus far in the minds of some, it was dispelled when the vessel and the recovery station were eventually located.

Receiving an unexpected authentication challenge, the small shuttle was barely able to gain safe passage to dock with the station. Meeting with the Straxians, who had survived by repurposing the station’s modules and equipment, Amarkovek briefed his brethren on the situation. In return, the first officer to make contact with the station in years was brought up to speed with the crew’s activities. Transmissions from the neighbouring system had been intercepted and revealed that the Union had seized the factory world of Hellion V.
After a year of assisting with the operation on the station, Amarkovek took his shuttle and troops to Hellion V, intent on meeting with local resistance cells. Initially, the Hellion rebels were untrusting but, after the lesson learnt with high command, Amarkovek was not about to let himself slip up a second time. After a slow, deliberate, game of political chess, the Straxian resistance met with their Hellion V counterparts. A simple deal was struck – Strax had a war ending weapon, Hellion V had the technicians needed to bring it back into working order; As the old adage goes: “You help me, I help you.”

During the years it took to covertly ferry men and material to the recovery station, not to mention the actual work on the vessel, Amarkovek connected with the Straxian and Hellion personnel who had been brought in on the project. Slowly but surely, the once minor officer’s network was growing.

Eventually, tireless work on the ship brought preliminary systems online. It was enough to nudge the ship through space, but the once great machine was still unable to defend itself in any capacity. With high command becoming impatient, Amarkovek had to act.

Christened the “Leviathan”, the ship broke free of its icy grave in the void of space and embarked on a month-long journey towards Strax. One month was not a long time, but it was all the crew had; the ship would be combat ready or they would die. Naturally, the former was far more preferable to all involved. Coordinating with ground forces to organise a large-scale uprising to coincide with the arrival of the Leviathan, a date was set for Strax’s fiery liberation.

Unprepared for a battle in orbit, the Leviathan was able to overpower the weak garrison fleet before manoeuvring into position for one orbital bombardment after another. While they were impressive fortresses to ground assaults, Union strongpoints and command centres could hardly stand up to intensive bombardment from capital class weaponry. Missing the anniversary of the beginning of the uprising by just a few months, the Union was forced off Strax. But, with one enemy gone, another entered Amarkovek’s sights. There was one struggle yet to win.

With the power of the Leviathan at his command, Amarkovek’s Strax Ascendancy turned on the Strax Resistance in what became a month-long civil war. To any other it may have been a heavy price to pay, turning one one’s comrades, but to the Grand General it was something else – necessary and coldly premeditated.
After six years rebuilding the essentials on Strax, solidifying their power, establishing the AKB intelligence agency, and preparing his war machine; during which the Leviathan was expanded upon, now having given the appearance of a normal starship along with most records of its alien nature erased, the guise of its Straxian might was secured. The Ascendancy launched its expansion and war against the Union.

Starting with the Regulus system, the war began in earnest. Regulus would fall, then Artemis, swiftly followed by Zecarov and, by the time 'Kovek had reached his thirty-ninth year, Sathanas was also under Ascendency control. While the liberated systems had indeed been under Union oppression, they were strategically important; The Grand General was not about to deny his home a buffer zone should the Union ever attempt another campaign against Strax, against him.

Amidst the blood and smoke of the Zecarov and Sathanas campaigns, Amarkovek encountered a woman by the name of Kirya. With her leading a task force to destroy a colony of aliens on an Ascendancy-held world. Even if it was a suicide mission, the Empire she served expected her to die. They were met with higher resistance than usual from the local security forces, until Amarkovek and an element of the 1st Star Fleet arrived, responding to the incursion. For a week Kirya and her platoon fought the forces of the Ascendancy, falling one by one until only she remained. With her battle-suit disabled, she leapt out, clad in her pilot's bodysuit, and began fighting. Seeing this one woman taking on a squad at a time, plus his personal guards, sparked something inside of Amarkovek. It took both his guards together, as combat synthetics, to subdue Kirya and capture her.

Over time during her captivity, Amarkovek and Kirya grew a bond, with Amarkovek being the first to treat her with respect as a fellow warrior and commander. Soon enough he found out just where she was from, a far away world named Arak, part of the Arakian Empire. Kirya was indeed sent to die, after she had become disgraced and sent into an Arakian 'Onyx Battalion.' To Amarkovek's surprise, she had raised through the ranks of the Arakian Imperial Navy all the way to Fleet Admiral over many years.  Soon enough, this mutual respect grew into admiration, and then love. They would eventually marry with Kirya becoming the second Grand General in the Ascendancy, after she went through basic training just like everyone else.

After a year-long standoff on the Union-Ascendancy border, with the war turning cold and becoming a simple arms race, the Union was forced to blink first. With military spending running rampant and suffocating other interests, the Union was forced to withdraw the bulk of its military to suppress civilian uprisings occurring on multiple core worlds. Holding on to the proverbial “Red Line” separating Ascendency and Union space, the Ascendency continues to prepare itself for what it considers to be an inevitable invasion by the Union. A lot had already happened in his life but, standing upon the bridge of the Leviathan, the fifty two-year-old Amarkovek had gone from a scared child to the leader of a proud and feared empire.

And now, the Ascendancy faces its most fearsome enemy, one that would prove to be far more of a threat than the Union ever was, the Federation of Purity, following their invasion of the Zecarov system...
