Long Winter by Jye

Long Winter

Jye

Drawn in 2012 in MyPaint. I think this still is the most complex piece of art I've ever completed. I'm still rather proud of this (and proud that I actually made an awesome background for once), though I might try to fix the shading on Cassius someday when I'm feeling ambitious. We'll see.

Part of the original description:

"And now for a bit of backstory, inspired a bit by the late October snow we had this year.

Winter fell quickly. Faster than it had before. The sudden cold snap came out of nowhere. The goatman should have seen it coming. The creatures he tried to hunt had all vanished, and the sky had turned a muted gray. The air was cold, unseasonably cold. And then the first flakes began to fall. He was foolish not to expect much from it. Though it was too early in the season, nature had a way of being unpredictable. The wind raised, and the snow fell faster. It quickly became apparent that he would not make it to his hut in the storm. It was in his favor that he knew the wildlands well. He took shelter inside a rock cave, gathering the small twigs and leaves from the cave's mouth. It was not much, but it would work for a small fire, and there was no time to spend searching for more fuel. As night fell, he lit the small fire, though its warmth was hardly enough to warm his cold bones. The goatman waited in the cold for the storm to end.

It was going to be a long winter."
