Erebus's Story

I suppose this is what I had envisioned what I had in mind when I thought of this. I'm not good at all when it comes to being a writer. Please don't hold back if you decide to critique.

Peace... Though not much to be had at the time, the Balfarcian town of Seaside to the north never

had much going on unless it had a traveler passing though. The people were clothed in rags and

had little to no money. The crops were few and those who sought survival stole what they could to

stay alive. Most caught their death of cold and left children alone to fend for themselves.

After the winter snow melted away, a dark knight rode into Seaside on the back of a dragon.

The townsfolk all gathered to see the strange knight with horns and a flowing tattered cape.

"I require a guide to the caves on your shore." He spoke in a scratchy deep voice.

The people sank back into their homes and hid, all but one child. The little boy stood there looking up

at the knight though his long blue hair. It took the knight a moment to take in the sight of such a child,

ill taken care of.

"A child? Do you jest?"

"No, sir... I can be your guide for as much coin as you can spare."

"I have no intention of putting you at risk on this quest."

The boy covered his mouth with his hand, coughing "Then you'll have no guide to show you the way."

He paused. "Get on, then....What is your name?"

"I'm Evaan."

"Get on then, Evaan."

The dragon sat down for boy to climb on and so they rode off at the sun fell on the horizon.

The area before them was blanketed in moonlight. Not a cloud was in the sky. "There! Right there!"

Evaan exclaimed. " The knight stopped, dismounting the dragon and looked to the child.

"Wait for me here." And so he did... for hours the blue haired boy waited and waited until the dark

knight and a great beast of tentacles and teeth came spewing out of the cave, both ravaged battle worn.

Before the beast could regain itself, the child grabbed the knight's sword and dropped it on the beast

like a falling guillotine.

A loud thud of the knight's sword met with the ground as the boy collapsed.

Soon, he awoke within an elegant room with the softest pillows and the warmest blankets.

His eyes widened with the discovery of his clean skin, no more mud that was once caked on his

hands and feet. Before he could do or say anything else, a frail old man entered, walking on a cane.

Silence filled the chamber.

"You're the knight?" Evaan's face in disbelief.

"I am." the old main strained as he sat.

"But you're..."

"Old?" he chucked

Again, silence stood between them.

"You've saved my life. After you collapsed, I brought you back to your town.

The people told me that you have no mother nor father. So in gratitude for aiding me,

I've considered taking you as my own since I have no heirs."

The boy's eyes stung with tears. "Can I have your name?"

"It is, Erebus."

The boy jumped off the bed and clung to the old man. "I, too, will be Erebus."
