I got the idea when commissioning my Kaleida pic... Leucrotta asked me if I wanted it in color or black and white, and I thought, "who would want a colorful parrot in black and white?". Then I got the idea of a goth macaw who dyed all her feathers black... might get another pic of her in plainer clothes in the future, too. :)
