Coming Undone Ch 3 Pg 23

“Agh, I’m sorry. It’s been a long day.” He scratched behind his head nervously.
“It’s alright ‘darlin.” She said with a twinge of a southern accent. He was craving vegetables and ordered some simple stir fry with his usual black coffee. He nearly fell asleep listening to the patter of the rain on the roof, but when his food arrived he awoke immediately and began to nosh on his bowl of vegetables, rice, and noodles. He decided to stay for a while and wait for the storm to die down. He held the steaming coffee between his paws, gazing out into the street.
And, as he looked out into the vast darkness of the slowly calming city, he realized he was alone in the world. Nothing would ever change for him, and no one would ever be there. Tears dripped down his face, staining his cheeks. More tears fell into his coffee cup, but he didn't seem to notice or care at that point. Some street lights buzzed on as the rain began to fall harder, staining the city streets. The pavement no longer looked like stone, but now a black river drifting through the streets and onto the sidewalk as people hurried by. At least they had places to go. He watched a couple dash by, huddled under an umbrella together. At least they have each other, he thought. At least they had a cozy home to go to together. He inhaled sharply, trying not to sob as the crushing loneliness fell upon him. Each tear tore him apart, each passing second was agonizing. A gloomy, unearthly feeling veiled his heart.
