Escaping chaos

“Blast it all,” John cursed, shoving his helmsman out of the pilot’s seat, as he seen Seth leap from the deck. Without another word, he signaled the battle alarms across the ship, bringing most of the crew a very rude awakening. Across the ship, people scurried around like bees defending their hive, warming up the flak cannons and laser batteries. All the while, John heaved the ship around and blasted the engines mid-turn, intent on giving Seth no headway into his escape. The ship lurched forward, nearly knocking half the crew off their feet.

The whirling blades of the handheld copter cut through the night, carrying me on my escape. Even though I didn’t trust the darn thing, not knowing how it worked and all, I held onto it for dear life. Before I was even one hundred yards away from that crazy ship, I flinched as the engines roared to life. I was pretty darn sure they weren’t going turning them on the go home either.

Auric laughed, echoing in my head, “Seems you stirred up the hornet’s nest.”

“Better that than staying captured,” I remarked, trying to aim the copter towards the water. If I could make it to the shore, or even within a safe dropping distance, I could ditch the copter and swim my way to victory.

Again Auric laughed, “That plan isn’t as foolproof as you think.”

I sighed, “What’s wrong this time?” shifting my grip some on the handle.

He turned my vision towards a small unshining spotlight on the deck, aimed straight at me. “Don’t you feel the infrared light locked on you? It’s going to be impossible to escape that with the depth of the water here. They will catch you eventually~” He jeered, taking pleasure in delivering the bad news syllable by syllable.

“Just great,” I thought aloud, “Nothing is ever simple around here.” Taking a moment to replan, I looked around. The landscape was nearly barren beach, some mountains in the distance, a oddly well light bridge, and lots of rocks and water. I couldn’t feel any real major energy sources to absorb around here, save for the nuclear reactor on the ship. Since they weren’t just going to let me waltz in and eat their power, I had nothing to work with.

“Fine, let me give you a hint,” Auric sighed, “Where’s the one place that the ship’s tracking system is blind?”

I turned to scan the coastline, my tail nearly throwing the copter above off balance as I shifted too fast. Nothing jumped out at me as a ‘blind zone’, being a flat area. The bridge would hide me…until they started blowing it up like the ground above a digging mole. The mountains were too far away to be of much use, and the ocean provided no shelter at first glance.

That only left…

“You’re crazy.” I blurted out, “I’d have to cling to the bottom of the ship!?”

Auric snickered, waving his arms and bowing in my head, “I am the angel of chaos, you know.”

Well, that was the only chance I had of obtaining my escape it seemed. Grinning wildly from the irony, I angled the copter back towards the ship, trying to get an approach vector that would lead towards the mountains in an attempt to throw them off my new purpose. I thrust out my Symbol out of my back, attempting to gather what background energy I could.

I was gonna need it for this trick.
